Colloquium Series “Other Words, Other Voices”

2018 Oct 05, Friday
Seminar Hall, 10th Floor, Pixel A (Azim Premji University)

About the Lecture

Jerry Pinto has co-written Leela Naidu's memoir, Leela: A Patchwork Life (Penguin India) and translated Mallika Amar Sheikh's autobiography I Want to Destroy Myself (Speaking Tiger). He has also translated the autobiographies, Baluta by Daya Pawar (Speaking Tiger) and Strike a Blow to Change the World by Eknath Awad (Speaking Tiger). As these are all first-person accounts, (in the sense that the writer speaks of herself or himself), they offer multiple problems in terms of shifts in gender, tonality and caste position. The talk will address the issue of trying to speak in other voices.
